C’est l’été! Five games and speaking activities to plan a Les Vacances d’ete / Summer Holiday Activities in French vocabulary unit. Includes summer sports and vocabulary for activities at the beach (à la plage). Teaches and practises key vocabulary, linked questions, answers and grammar points.2 Four in a Row games, a Serpents et Echelles board game, an active oral card game, 16 bingo or noughts and crosses cards and a differentiated human active bingo activity. 5 vocabulary support pages in different versions are also included for display or printing if required.
My French basics / beginners resources are designed for Year 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 (and equivalents in other countries) but might suit others. Due to small UK / US differences (holiday / vacation etc), I’ve included versions for both. Previews show UK versions. PDF in a Zip file.
Les activites d’ete: the games focus on 18 key summer time or holiday activities: (aller à la plage, me bronzer, faire du camping, faire un château de sable, faire des excursions, faire un pique-nique, faire de la planche à voile, faire de la randonnée, faire du ski nautique, faire du surf, faire du vélo, faire de la voile, jouer dehors, jouer au tennis, manger des glaces, nager (dans la mer), visiter des musées, voyager) and linked questions and answers, such as ‘Qu’est-ce que tu aimes faire pendant les vacances?’ and use of ‘le futur proche’ (near future tense), using ‘Je vais…’ (Je vais aller à la plage etc) to talk about what the students are going to do this summer.

- 5 VOCAB SUPPORT PAGES: A word mat (‘J’aime…’ and ‘Je vais…’ versions), with and without a pastel background, plus a key question and answer prompt card.
- 2 FOUR IN A ROW GAMES: Works well in A3 for larger groups. Laminate and use a dry-wipe pen.
- ACTIVE CARD GAME: 36 cards (18 identical pairs). Students circulate, asking and answering questions about French summer activities, using the info on their card. First pair to find their match wins. 4 versions – using ‘aimer’ and using ‘aller’ for the near future and both are included in English and French. Use the French versions to support less experienced or lower ability learners.
