LO: To know different Christian views on homosexuality and transgender issues

Lesson starts by discussing a controversial Change.org petition about a film ‘depicting Jesus as a lesbian woman’, then watching an extract of the Diarmaid MacCulloch documentary Sex and the Church (linked on the slide), with questions to complete (answers included). Students look at some recent news from the Pope endorsing same sex civil unions, the background context to the decriminalisation of homosexuality in the UK (extension to explore an article about conversion therapy), and then are to complete a double sided sheet about homosexuality and transgender issues using the textbook to help. Students then complete and peer mark a 10 mark question, and complete a 15 mark question for homework.

Resources included: PPT, lesson plan, Sex and the Church documentary question sheet, documentary answer sheet for teacher, double sided sheet on homosexuality and transgender issues
