In preparation for reading The Giver, this project challenges students to dream up a utopian society that attempts to fix some of the world's problems in an ideal plan. The assignment can be done individually or in groups. Students will have a blast inventing a society that works.

They need to think persuasively about the following rubric categories:

> Utopian Name
> Purpose and Vision
> Audience
> Membership
> Location
> Activities
> Price
> Contact Information
> Design & Layout
> Persuasive graphics and manipulative design
> Anticipate Reader Concerns

IDEAS to FIX:

> pain
> racism
> rich vs. poor
> crime
> lack of purpose

Students then must analyze their peers' presentations to ask valid critiquing questions about their utopias.
