Year 8 gothic narrative writing unit- teaching the skills of gothic writing using R. Riggs’ novel, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, as a stimulus. Focuses on gothic conventions, engaging openings, character development, use of setting, drop-shift-zoom-link descriptive writing technique, creation of tension, mastering changes in tense, narrative structure, planning, writing, redrafting- with a challenging focus of switching narrative perspective at the end. Extracts and WAGOLLs included. Planned in line with Rosenshine’s Principles.
