Led by Oliver Jeffers’ book, ‘HERE WE ARE: Notes for Living on Planet Earth’, this comprehensive and creative planning is differentiated for EYFS, KS1, LKS2 and UKS2 and is intended to last the duration of half term. The plans follow ‘The Copley Curriculum Enquiry Journey’ model and involve the children in field work around their local area as an essential part of the learning.

Ideally, in your Geography long-term plan, the children will have a locality focus every other year [Rn, Y2, y4, Y6] to successfully build on their Geographical knowledge, understanding, use of vocabulary, and application of skills. In our small school we will be having all the children engaging in this Enquiry Journey at the same time as we run a two-year timetable. This enables siblings to discuss their learning at the dinner table!

The plans include a visual format for the Geography Coordinator. This provides a theme overview and enables instant clarity regarding progression - how the children develop ‘as Geographers’ from this Enquiry Journey and over the Primary Phase. There is an Enquiry Journey overview and a planning sheet for each age group comprising lots of ideas for lessons - all linked to the National Curriculum.

Whilst the plans are connected to a village in South Devon, alterations to suit your school environment shouldn’t be too arduous.
