Jack the Ripper Immersive Investigation

This immersive lesson, suitable for students Yr8-Yr11, throws students into the 1888 police investigation into the Jack the Ripper murders. Students are given roles as Detectives, Pathologists or Scene of Crime officers and use evidence packs to help solve the Ripper murders.

These resources can be used as part of a KS3 investigation into life in 19th Century Britain, or as part of the Crime and Punishment GCSE module.

The evidence packs include:

• An introductory presentation, in the style of a modern-day police investigation.
• Primary sources such as copies of letters sent to newspapers, and statements given to police and inquests.
• Witness statements and interviews, written in the style of a modern-day police investigation.
• Diary entries and letters, written as if from the victims, relatives, and investigating officers.

All of the evidence included in the evidence packs are either primary sources, or taken from primary sources.
