Students are in the role of “detectives” independently studying a range of primary and secondary sources. Aims and a mark scheme are embedded and specific differentiated tasks are set.

The students use the carefully selected evidence slides and a video documentary (on You Tube) to compile precise notes before they write a speech to the courts outlining who they feel the Ripper was and why. The tasks are deliberately set up to ensure that students first glean inferences from sources and then consider their reliability and utility.
This source has been compiled by a Head of History with 20 years of experience who is also an examiner for GCSE Level History. It works very well as part of the thematic study Crime and Punishment for AQA and Eduqas.
