Koala Sensory Science

The slide show was successfully used with SLD and PMLD sensory learners in KS3 and KS4 as we explored our big theme topic: ‘Australia’. It could be used with students in EYFS, KS1 and KS2.This is a photo based powerpoint. It outlines interesting facts about koala bears and includes sensory ideas throughout. Each slide consists of one simple phrase with a corresponding photograph and activity suggestion. The slideshow concludes with a hyperlink to a short relaxing koala YouTube film . There is a short animal recognition quiz included. There are opportunities for learning body parts, early counting, colour sorting, responding to one keyword questions, making simple choices and showing simple preferences.
We used a similar slideshow over several weeks in the sensory science sessions and focused in on the parts that captured the greatest interest.
