Writing a Diary is a Smartboard presentation which describes what a diary entry is, why people might write them and their use as a piece of historical evidence. The presentation then gives several examples of attempted diary entries and the class should discuss what they think of them. There are also written examples of what other people thought of the diaries. The final task is to attempt to write a diary entry based on a list of simple events where a child wakes up in a (new) unfamiliar house and hears a noise. The child creeps downstairs and sees a shaggy monster leaping around the kitchen. The monster turns out to be Dad who has risen earlier and trodden on a lego building block. The child character is then made to clear up the mess Dad created as he jumped about the kitchen.
