This unit is a great way to kick off a Romans topic. These five lessons guide children through the basics of writing a diary entry and using prepositional phrases to describe. They will learn and write about everyday Roman life. Each lesson includes planning (differentiated 3 ways), PowerPoint and resources (some adapted for EAL/SEN children).

Lesson 1: L.O. Use prepositions to show time.
Success Criteria

  • I understand what a preposition to show time is.
  • I can identify time prepositions.
  • I can use time prepositions as openers.

Lesson 2: L.O. Make notes on the day in the life of a Roman.
Success Criteria

  • I can create identify areas to research based on Roman life.
  • I can find information about different areas of Roman life.
  • I can use notes to record information.

Lesson 3: L.O. Plan a diary entry.
Success Criteria

  • I can discuss my ideas with a partner.
  • I can use prepositions to show time in my plan.
  • I can organise ideas into paragraphs.

Lesson 4 and 5: L.O. Write a diary entry.
Success Criteria

  • I can use prepositions to show time.
  • I can use informal language to write a diary entry.
  • I can use my plan to write a diary entry.
  • I can write in paragraphs.
