This is the first lesson in a scheme of work suitable for year 7 focusing on the Norman Conquest. This lesson is an overview of the reasons why the Romans left Britain and is intended as the first of three lessons setting the context to the history of Britain in the centuries before 1066.

The lesson resource includes a do now quiz at the start, slides with information for whole class reading, analysis activity of reasons why the Romans left, categorising into political, economic and military. An engaging Youtube video is linked. There is a comprehension reading activity and a final plenary slide.

The resource is on sand background and is clearly laid out to reduce cognitive overload.
