4 weeks worth of Guided Reading tasks and accompanying question slides based on The Griffin Gate by Vashti Hardy. Lessons were planned and delivered to LKS2 classes who had never done whole class guided reading before.
Lessons were created to explicitly teach each of the 5 vipers skills: Vocabulary, Inference, Prediction, Explaining, Retrieval, and Summarising.
Pack contains:
1 complete slideshow containing 5 lessons a week for 4 weeks
1 document containing tasks for each of the lessons.
The lesson sequence is as follows:
Monday – Prediction
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday – Other VIPERS skills (one focus skill per week)
Friday – Summarising

Week 3: Retrieval (linked text)
Week 4: Explaining (linked text)
Tasks include:
Using dictionaries to find definitions of words in the text
Ordering vocabulary by its ‘shade of meaning’
Writing questions to characters
Thinking of new names for the chapters
