This resource is for students and teachers of GCSE English Literature. This ‘Lord of the Flies’ first lesson pack is ready-to-teach and includes:
-
- One full PowerPoint introducing students to the key contexts and themes of William Golding’s ‘Lord of the Flies’.
-
- One four page (two double-sided pages) worksheet to match the activities included in the PowerPoint.
The lesson introduces students to the heavy historical context that preceded the creation of Golding’s novel ‘Lord of the Flies’, and includes a creative writing task that allows them to consider the lives and fears of people at the time. The task also feeds the technical skill of creative writing needed for English Language Paper 1. There is also a bullet-pointed breakdown of the key events of Golding’s life that will be referenced throughout the reading of the novel, as well as an introduction to key themes. Plenty of opportunities for thoughtful class discussion throughout.
The lesson fills a full hour and has been taught to several classes beforehand. It is completely ready to teach so perfect for last-minute lesson plans or can be adapted into larger schemes of work if needed. If the worksheet is not complete, there is opportunity to set as homework.
The worksheet will be available as part of a larger booklet that follows the full scheme of work for the teaching of ‘Lord of the Flies’ that is coming soon to Literateach.
