This lesson is designed to introduce year 7 students to common scientific measurements and the lab equipment needed to measure these. It was designed for a 100 minute lesson, so could be split between 2 x 60 minute sessions. Students are challenged in ways that force mistake-making and subsequent reflection. For example, they will see how measuring volume of water using a beaker is inaccurate when they transfer contents to a measuring cylinder. The competition could be the second 60-minute lesson. Lesson plan included.
