This resource has been created to help students understand and celebrate Black History Month. The lesson is based around the autobiography of Mary Seacole during her time as a nurse in the Crimean War.

This lesson gives students a simplified and broken-down way of accessing a non-fiction text. The first part poses comprehension and language activities. The activities ensure the text is carefully read. The second part of the lesson looks at vocabulary building and writing skills. Although the activities are based around Literacy / English skills, this resource is suitable for cross curricular lessons in both PSHE and History.
