Matariki Hāngi Craft Reading Information Text and Writing Craft

Children will love making this hands-on foldout hāngi craft. It can be used as a craft for Matariki or as a writing craft for children to write what they know about Matariki.

I’ve included lots of options to choose from for the craft and the information text, so you can easily adapt this to your needs.

Craft Options:

• Make a foldable hāngi.
• Write answers to the questions (with lines or without).
• Blank for students to write about their own topic/s of interest (with lines or without).
• Editable version so you can write the topics or questions (text is editable, images and layout aren’t).

Information Options:

• Jigsaw reading - eight topics to choose from for the harder version and four topics for the easier version, plus an editable version so you can adapt it and choose the questions that are most appropriate.
• Reading text – two levels of text to choose from, plus editable versions, or you can use online sources.

While this craft could be used to write about Matariki, it could also be used for writing instructions on how to make a hāngi.
