Mental Math SUBTRACTION Strategies - Counting Back and Counting Up

Counting back and counting up are mental strategies that are used to subtract numbers that are close together. These mental strategies help students find the difference between numbers by counting up (on their fingers) from the smaller number to the larger number to keep track of the numbers or counting back from the larger number to larger number. The answer is the number of counts. I created this set to help introduce the strategy to students and to provide an eye catching visual reminder for them until they are able to master this mental strategy.
