This resource serves as a very useful recap of the Middle Ages and the various roles within Medieval society. It helps students visualise what it would have been like living in the Middle Ages and it ensures that they put the information that they have learnt to real use. It brings the subject to life. Students have a great deal of fun acting out each part. I hope that you will enjoy it.
Disappointing. No script for role plays. One page for £4.

Hi there, I am sorry you feel disappointed. My intention for this role play was that it would be improvisation based. The teacher gives them their role, which they have to research and then they set the scene as illustrated on the handout. The students then have the opportunity to show what they know about their character and what they should do in that situation, therefore learn by doing. If you wanted to structure it more, you could ask students to create the role play in groups using relevant information beforehand and guide them through the process. Then ask them to act it out. I usually do this role play at the end of the chapter as a recap exercise. I hope this is helpful.

Roleplaying is an excellent way for the students to become actively involved in a lesson and thus to "learn by doing". This resource is a great idea that should assist teachers in designing a roleplay activity that could occupy the whole class. It encourages the class to research their roles and to be creative in presenting themselves as the part that they have been allocated. The demonstration, narration and action involved in this exercise would fulfills V.A.R.K. learning fully. The students I teach really enjoyed it and got totally involved in it.
