This set of 32 Google Slides and printable worksheets are designed to help students understand and gain fluency with multiplication patterns and powers of ten (x1, x10, x100, 1000 and x10,000) without exponents/indices. The aim of the activity is to help students understand the base 10 number system, and that each place value position is 10 times greater than its place to the right.
The products in each table have been designed to demonstrate the movement you would see in a place value chart to reinforce this learning.
Four types of questions are included to ensure that students can build the connections and understanding between powers of ten and place value and have the foundation knowledge for more challenging questions (such as multiplying decimals or exponents) in later years.
Question types:
-
Fill in the missing products eg 6 x 100 = ?
-
Fill in the missing multiplier eg 6 x? = 600
-
Drag and drop the calculation needed to work out the product.
-
Missing multipliers and products.
Two explanatory teaching slides are also placed at the beginning of the google slides and an example shown at the beginning of the set of worksheets to help promote independent learning.
