Here’s a fun way to practise telling the time which will be great for a New Year’s activity or a party theme. Children write the digital and analogue times on the clocks on the hat, then colour, cut and make a party hat.
There are lots of options to meet your needs:
- two phrases on the hat to choose from – “It’s Party Time!” or “Happy New Year!”
- hour and half hour
- hour, half, and quarter hour
- nearest five minutes
- nearest minute
- time intervals – Students choose pairs of clocks to color with the same colour, then find the time interval between them to record on the recording sheet.
- time intervals – Students read the questions and colour the clocks on the hat to match the answers.
- U.K. and U.S. versions
This telling the time craft is easy-prep and will be great addition to your centres or stations, or use it for early finishers or as a whole-class activity.
I hope your students have fun making their party hats while learning how to tell the time.
