Teacher Notes
Always Sometimes Never is a great way to start and end any topic. It should be used to promote discussion, mathematical thinking and reasoning.
Children should be given adequate time to discuss, and importantly prove their thinking. I use this tool in the classroom alongside topic notes, whiteboards and lots of scrap paper for thinking.
At first it may take students time to be trained in how to engage in these rich and challenging discussions. However, once trained mathematics becomes an even more engaging subject.
Included:
-A collection of statements in two sizes: flashcards and student cut outs.
-A sorting mat for pairs or groups.
-Large headings for display boards
Not included:
-Answers as this exercise is about mathematical thinking! Therefore students should be deriving the answers.
