Two sets of sheets with two place value grids on that can be photocopied and sliced up to be used. The place value grid follows the idea of splitting the place values into threes to help show how thousands and millions truly work as well as signposting where commas should go with the second place value grid then including up to three decimal places.

Also included are place value counters. They all say 1, 10 or 100 on them but have the colour of the place value section they belong to. They have been created this way rather than saying 10,000 on so that children can gain a better understanding of the values within each three sets and the reason for 0.

I think if we can agree the units place is "different" than all the other place values and somehow help students understand the "opposite" operations are not on either side of the decimal, but on either side of the units place (ie: tens:tenths x 10 or x 1/10)

Thanks for uploading to TES! Establishing the concept of place value is essential- hopefully this proves a useful resource to teachers doing this.
