The rules include those for:

regular nouns
nouns ending in -ch ,-'sh, -x, -s
nouns ending in -f, -fe, -ff
nouns ending in -y preceded by a consonant
nouns ending in -y preceded by a vowel
nouns ending in -o preceded by a consonant
nouns ending in -o preceded by a vowel
nouns that do not change in the plural form
irregular pupils
