A KS3 lesson to introduce students to the concept of poetry and cultural identity. Will act as a good introduction to the AQA Poems from Other Cultures anthology.
This lesson explores the concept of rap, hip hop and grime music as poetry. It features points of view from a number of well known rappers and MCs, and culminates in students analysing lyrics by 'Rap Shakespeare' and founder of the Hip Hop Shakespeare Company, Akala.
The lesson includes a Do Now, differentiated outcomes, differentiated starter, main task and plenary.
