This resource is a poster to be printed and displayed in the classroom to support teaching the routine, Great Sitting.

**The purpose of this routine is to make sure children are seated in a
position that allows them to work during the lesson input/discussion. **

This pack also contains an information sheet explaining how I use the routine.

The poster layout has been designed to be intuitive:

  1. Find the routine’s name prominently displayed at the top of the poster.
For additional clarity, the function of the routine is highlighted within the
    orange border at the bottom.
  2. Start at the top of the poster to initiate the routine journey.
  3. Navigate downwards, following the poster’s progression mirroring the
routine’s steps. Let the visual cues guide you.

Classroom Routines Posters

These posters are designed to help you teach routines to your class. The idea of the routines poster is that you can point at the poster to explain the routine. You can also point at the poster when you are using the routine. The posters you will receive: **1) Poster to help teach children to stop. ** As a class teacher, we want the children to know what is expected when we ask them to stop. This routine teaches children to show that they are ready to listen when you finish counting down. **2) Poster to teach speaking to be heard. ** When children are speaking in a class discussion, we want everyone in the room to hear every word. Children will often use voices that can be heard only by a few. This routine highlights the importance of speaking loudly and clearly. **3) Ready to learn poster. ** This routine teaches shows children how they should be during teacher-led learning. We want the children to actively engaged in their learning. Asking the children to 'Show me GREAT' will ask them to sit safely in their chairs, prepare to talk loudly enough for everyone to hear, have empty hands, to be ready to ask questions and to look at the teacher. **4) Teach listening to instructions poster. ** Have you ever had children who stop listening to you instructions and start tiding away before you have finished? This routine teaches children that they should start only when you say go. **5) Poster to teach children to line up. ** Use this poster to help children to line up using non verbal cues. **6) What is a scholar poster. ** This poster help children to understand what a scholar is. It also shows some of the qualities they could demonstrate when trying to behave like a scholar. **7) Poster to help teach great sitting. ** This poster shows children that we want them to sit safely on their chairs ready to learn. These routines can be combined. For example, the poster to teach children to stop can be combined with the ready to learn poster (we want the children to stop and then show they are ready to learn).
