RAINFOREST POETRY - Wouldn’t it be awesome if…
This resource is a three part lesson linked to the poetry book ‘Wouldn’t it be awesome if…’ - a great book to support a rainforest project linking to the island of Borneo.

This resource includes:

  • PPT guiding you through the poetry lessons
  • Key vocabulary linked to poetry
  • An introduction to the illustrator and author
  • Real photographs and beautiful illustrations of rainforest animals

Learning objectives:
To read and recite poetry with intonation and expression.
To identify and discuss the features of poetry.
To develop research skills.
To write own poetry using a familiar structure which includes interesting language and facts about rainforest animals.

Learning activity:

  1. Children take one poem from the book and in teams analyse the poem and perform it. You can add sound effects using body percussion or instruments.
  2. Children complete research about a chosen rainforest animal
  3. Children write their own peom using the same style and structure as ‘Wouldn’t it be awesome if …’

You will need:
A copy of the poetry book ‘Wouldn’t it be awesome if …’ by Katherine Wheatley and illustrated by Megan Elliott

A perfect combination of resources which also works well with the Awesome Island Project Resources. This would make a perfect class or year group assembly too!
