Good idea to introduce the two most common Percentages First, such as Discounts and Interest. I like to start each lesson off in our Percentages Unit with what I call "Interesting Percentage of the Day". I have just a picture on the smartboard and then discuss some percentages. For some ideas on such "Interesting Percentages" visit Passy's World of Mathematics, and look at this lesson: http://passyworldofmathematics.com/interesting-percentages/ Enjoy, Paul Passy Melbourne Australia.
A really good simple resource to generate discussion in the classroom. We don't use enough real life stimuli such as this in the classroom. This will really get students discussing and asking questions of one another and allow the teacher to supplement the lesson with some really good probing questions. An excellent idea for further development by all teachers. Thanks for sharing.
