This is a KS2 satirical spoof of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, written for use as an end-of-year play for Year 6. As it was written for my class, the cast is for 26 children, though certain roles could be split or extended (such as the Chorus) or added in from the original play, as it is abridged. This play can help the children gain a basic understanding of the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, including rewritten versions of original lines for the children to understand their context.

The play includes popular songs to break up the action, such as Queen’s ‘Crazy Little Thing Called Love’, Michael Jackson’s ‘Beat It’ and ‘Tragedy’ by Steps. Of course, you can remove these if it doesn’t fit.

The resource creator is a KS2 teacher who just happens to have a love for creative writing and drama - and I’m sure, if you’re here, you’re a teacher who doesn’t want to pay out of the ear for a script!

Enjoy!
