This is a 30 lesson scheme of work for the short story ‘The Speckled Band’. A great scheme of work for teaching 19th century literature.
The scheme begins with an exploration into the Victorian era and crime fiction. We then move on to reading the text and analysing character and setting, while simultaneously evoking a sense of mystery by encouraging pupils to try and solve the crime. The scheme includes an end of unit assessment and feedback activity. This scheme can be used on a range of abilities, with activities being adapted or ommited for different levels.
