Give each pupil a word then say a sentence in English - if they have a word that makes up that sentence, they go to the front & get in the correct order. Start off with a very simple sentence (e.g. I like French) then show them how this can be built up by adding reasons, connectives, intensifiers etc. I use this to lead into them writing their own paragraphs, trying to develop their sentences as much as possible.
I print the words on different coloured paper to show what type of word it is - e.g. blue for masculine nouns, light blue for masc adjectives, green for connectives, and so on.
