Lesson 1 in the separating techniques topic.

Lesson starts off with a prior knowledge checker.
Introduction to the definition of mixtures including the 3 types of mixtures.
Pupils define this into a work sheet and then AfL is carried out.
Pupils can use mini white boards, or do thumbs down for red, middle for orange, up for green, in my school we have colored cards so you can check understanding of definitions.

Pupils then go on to discuss why we need to separate mixtures in relation to dirty drinking water and pupils get chance to filter dirty water (optional)
Pupils produce an accurate labelled scientific drawing of the equipment (WAGOLL criteria on the board) and they can peer assess these with 2 stars and a wish.
