Suitable for KS 2/3, this resource aims to develop knowledge and understanding of what goes into making a species ‘social’ and why they exist at all. Focusing on bees and ants, additional resources (in PowerPoint) illustrate how a hive/colony functions, introduces a variety of ‘social’ species and supports learning about the differences within insects, how we classify animals, and their importance to the environment. Includes image bank to use with the included discussion and activity ideas.

This resource was created by the Assistant Curator of Entomology at Leeds Museums and Galleries. More resources on insects, science, and all curriculum subjects can be found on the MyLearning website.
