In this 16 slide PowerPoint lesson, Stuart Hall's Audience Reception theory is introduced using a (slightly rude!) mnemonic. The theory is then applied to the Lynx Find Your Magic TV commercial (YouTube link provided within the PowerPoint).
Screenshots of the ad appear alongside suggested notes related to the preferred, oppositional and negotiated readings of the ad. Learning is consolidated with an essay question at the end of the lesson.
This would be an ideal way of demonstrating the theory in action. Useful teacher notes are provided in the notes panel when viewing the PowerPoint in edit mode.
