I have a BA from SOAS in African History and MA in Contemporary History from Bristol University. I have been teaching history in secondary schools in the UK for the last 12 years and I have been department head since 2018. I also now teach KS4 Catering and Hospitality and KS3 Food Technology. I have a background in catering and I am enjoying creating lessons that make cooking fun and accessible to all, as well as building a range of skills.

A practical guide to your first two years in teaching. It offers lots of time saving tips and advice on managing your work life balance, while also progressing with your career.

I have been a teacher for over twelve years, and I worked in both pastoral and academic leadership positions. I have not done everything right, but over the years I have found ways to work that allow me to feel like I can be a great teacher, as well as being a good mum, partner, friend and not neglecting myself. If you want teaching to be a longterm career option, you need to work smart and hard.

Early years teaching is tough and I hope this guide can give you some useful guidelines and bit of optimism.
