This is an excellent tarsia on simplifying surds through addition, subtraction and multiplication (it does not include rationalising the denominator). This would be ideal as an activity at any stage of the lesson although it is quite in depth so is probably most suited to being a main activity. Some of the questions require students to multiply out surds from two brackets which may be challenging for KS3. Thank you for sharing.
