A cross-curricular project in the style of the TV programme ‘The Apprentice’. It uses design skills, IT skills, business skills and students can work in teams too to develop problem solving, teamwork and organisation skills.
The design brief is as follows:
"I’m launching a brand-new milkshake product, and I need a winning team to bring it to market. But I’m not interested in any old sugary mess thrown together in a blender—I need innovation, eye-catching branding, and a product that flies off the shelves.
Your task is to design a brand-new milkshake concept from scratch. That means:
Flavours & Ingredients – What’s in it? What makes it stand out? Who is your target audience? Think taste, health benefits, and unique selling points.
Branding – Name, logo, and slogan. It needs to be memorable, professional, and most importantly, something that sells.
Packaging & Advertising – How does it look on the shelf? Design a bottle or carton that grabs attention. Create posters or digital ads that convince customers they NEED this milkshake.
Pitching & Business Strategy – At the end of the project, you will present your ideas to a panel of industry experts (me included). They will grill you on your choices, your market research, and your sales strategy. So, make sure you can defend your decisions.
This isn’t just about designing something fancy; it’s about making money. If I don’t think your product will sell, you’ll be fired.
So, step up, think smart, and create the ultimate milkshake brand. I’ll see you in the boardroom."
There are 10 tasks so this could be completed during an enrichment off timetable day or over a series of 10 - 12 lessons in a term - perhaps during transition lessons for those choosing business or IT for options.
