In this lesson plan, pupils are introduced to the idea of healthy eating, cooking and preparing for a special picnic to celebrate HM The King and HM The Queen Consort’s Coronation. The activities stimulate a number of creative and cross-curricular learning activities including games, role-play and story. Colourful resources of different types of food and drink help introduce pupils to consider what is needed for a balanced diet.
Children will develop their skills around good food choices and be reminded of the significance of the Royal Coronation (see associated lesson plan 'The Coronation Big Lunch: Teddy Bear’s Picnic, Key Stage 1, Activity 1).
These activities and resources offer a play-based approach to teaching and provide opportunities to link classroom learning with learning outside.
