This is a full English unit (lasting 4 weeks), based onThe Firework Maker’s Daughters by Philip Pullman. It contains full resources needed to teach this book to children in year 3 and 4. It includes a learning journey, possible weekly lesson plans, a PowerPoint which introduces each session and differentiated resources to support the learning journey. Each session is focused on learning objectives from the Hampshire reading and writing phase assessments. Aspects included are diary writing, firework and volcanic landscape descriptions, character comparisons and journey mapping. The middle section of the learning journey diverts from the book and changes the focus to non fiction texts. This includes a little science focus on how to make your own volcano and culminates in a geographical focus whereby the children create a factfile based around the formation of volcanoes
