This Year 4 multiplication lesson is based around the theme of the newly-released film The Incredibles 2 and includes a detailed lesson plan, PowerPoint and differentiated worksheets.

The lesson includes a clear learning objective, success criteria, an oral/mental counting starter, vocabulary list, teacher input, three-way differentiated independent work, a plenary and a self assessment opportunity.
After the starter, children are shown a letter from The Incredibles family, asking for their help to defeat evil and save the Supers. There is an animated PowerPoint for the teacher to model the methods that will be used during the lesson, and then children work independently to answer their own multiplication questions, each of which helps the Supers with a problem based on the film’s storyline.

Children use a formal written method (columns) to multiply 2, 3 or 4 digit numbers by 1 digit numbers.
NB If you have a higher ability set and would like to give them more of a challenge, I have adapted this lesson for Year 5 (starting to multiply by 2 digits) - please see separate bundle.

I have not been observed teaching this particular lesson but I have received an outstanding grade in all recent internal and external observations.
