The MY HERO Project is a virtual learning platform and multimedia library that promotes global competence with stories of heroes from around the world. Founded in 1995, MY HERO draws more than 20 million visitors in 197 countries to a safe, non-commercial online venue where they can discover, create, and share essays, art, audio and films about extraordinary and everyday people in their worlds who are making a difference.
The MY HERO website features stories, art, and short films on individuals working for human rights, environmental protection, ocean conservation, social justice, climate justice, and peace.
There is a fully stocked Teachers’ Room which hosts a plethora of curated multimedia content, thematic lesson plans, media resources and activities that can be used throughout the year either in schools or virtually. The lesson plans would be particularly relevant in primary schools and at the secondary level in Art, Drama, Media Studies, History, English, Social Studies, Philosophy, General Studies and PSHE lessons. The Educator QuickStart Guide has links to many of the MY HERO resources as well as instructive tutorials and there are also tools for teachers to manage their students’ work and/or create media playlists from the library.
