The following resources support teachers wishing to help students write an analytical essay for The Purple Hibiscus by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.

The resources were originally created for IGCSE World Literature, but they would be suitable for A-Level, IB or GCSE English specifications.

Attached are the following documents:

  • A guide to answering five different essay questions
  • A PP detailing how to answer one of the questions, focusing on dictatorships
  • Example paragraphs from past students (for AFL activities)
  • Teacher written PEAL paragraphs
  • A PP guide to writing effective conclusions and introductions
  • A guide to referencing and using embedded quotes
  • A PP guide to improving sentences in PEAL paragraphs

All documents can be easily edited for your teaching.

I was hoping this would save me some work but the PEAL paragraphs are superficial, the slide on introductions and conclusions contains a few lines of general advice, there is no essay structure given, rather general indicators and advice. I have wasted £7.
