What happens next?
Read the story to your class, which has been specially written to quickly engage interest, and then ask them what they think happens next. Say to them:
“I want you to think about what might happen next and then write down how you think the story might continue. When you have finished I look forward to hearing some of them read out loud.”
Fred the Cornish Fisherman.
When Fred had set out, half an hour before, the sea had been quite calm and the weather looked pleasant. He thought it would be a great day for fishing. So off he went, pulling hard on the oars to get a good distance out. He knew the waters well and was heading for a place where he knew there would be fruitful fishing. It was the site of a shipwreck and the sort of fish Fred was after were to be found at that site. But it was a good half hour of hard rowing to get out to it. THE STORY CONTINUES THEN THE STUDENTS HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO CONTINUE IT
