LESSON 1-5: This lesson begins a ten lesson unit on the set newspaper texts for 2021 onwards, the ‘Daily Mirror’ and ‘The Times’. This lesson covers Media Language, representation and contexts:
-Changes to the Spec explained 2021 onwards.
-Brexit context.
-Contexts of both the ‘Daily Mirror’ and 'the Times.
-An in-depth reminder of what constitutes as Media Language.
-A 4 page assessment and application of Media Language to the new set texts with the differentiated option to do a refresher on newspaper terms.
-An in-depth breakdown of both front covers and the Double Page Spread (DPS).
-Rule of thirds/ course of the eye and anchorage.
-Application task (Barthes/ Levi-strauss).
-Deconstructed DPS with key terms. Students then apply to new Brexit DPS.
-The political spectrum, active learning tasks with resources provided.
-Mediation
-Exploration of Van Zoonen applied to Theresa May and context on the former PM.
-Objective journalism, partisan journalism and Fake News.
-You Gov poll on consumer opinions on newspaper allegiances/ ideologies.
-Ideological State Apparatus.
-TASK 4, MEDIA BATTLESHIPS: Split into groups of two/ One will argue for, the other against/ You will have a sheet of paper which you will pass to and fro/ You are not allowed to speak/ We will hear back peoples discussions at the end. The first to run out of ammunition, sinks!
-Creation and guidance on the creation of a revision resource (resources provided).
-Tackling and drafting a response to a 30 marker on representation.
