Visual representation of collecting like terms

This resource is suitable for introducing students to the concept of collecting like terms, writing expressions for what they see, and the idea of subtracting one shape from another. As a result it will be obvious that you cant join together a’s and b’s etc
could be used as a starter or a worksheet.
Contains 2 sheets of shapes for them to write expressions for, and one for them to draw the picture from the expression. This provides the opportunity to discuss how there is more than one way of drawing these.
