Volcanoes - Hazards and Humans

The resource is to introduce the different types of hazards associated with volcanoes and why people may wish to live in volcanic areas.

The presentation starts with revealing an image of Pompei before introducing the topic. Students then discuss the images of the different hazards with each other and the teacher. They can then complete the worksheet with a “fill in the gaps” exercise. Extension task is to rank the hazards based on impact on human.

Following this students are asked why would people want to live in an area so dangerous. They then create a mind map using the handout on the different reasons.
