Think like a director and explore the effects that music and slow motion can have on viewers. Compare characters and identify metaphors. Explore anthropomorphism and how Joey’s character traits and emotions are displayed. Discuss the theme of kindness among enemies and positive lessons that can be learned from this tragic war story. Finally, write a first-person narrative from Joey’s perspective about his various owners and experiences.

Note: This award winning film is based on the 1982 children’s novel by Michael Morpurgo.

This resource consists of 11 high-level, short answer and essay questions that will do more than just ask your students to regurgitate information.

**Distance Learning Tips:

• Pause the movie at each question to give students time to write/discuss
