This is a creative lesson which supports with teaching the key reading skills - inference and making connections. This is a fun lesson to support the pupils in preparing for their SATs through text analysis.
It is based around the film Aladdin - focusing on the song ‘One Jump Ahead’.
The lesson begins with the pupils making predictions about what the song might mean based on the title. The children then work in groups to complete a loop card vocabulary activity to understand the meaning of words within the lyrics.
They then analyse these lyrics further and annotate around the lyrics the meaning.
The pupils then are supported with understanding how to use specific phrases to infer the meaning and then making connections with the world around them.
It is a really fun lesson which holds the pupils interests.
The lesson was originally planned on ActivPrimary Flipchart but I have copied it over to a PPT for those who do not have access to flipchart.
I specialise in KS2. Please take a look at my other resources.
