In this Year 4 EAL Planning for The Iron Man, students will develop their sentence construction and descriptive skills through engaging activities focused on Year 1 SPAG objectives. Using the colourful semantics approach, children will:

  • Verbally construct sentences about the Iron Man, emphasising sentence structure and clarity.

  • Write sentences based on Chapter One of The Iron Man, incorporating colourful semantics to support sentence formation.

  • Generate and explore adjectives to describe the Iron Man through a creative mind mapping activity

  • Understand the role of adjectives in describing nouns and use them effectively in sentences.

  • Create well-structured sentences with at least one adjective, using colourful semantics to describe the Iron Man.

  • Retell Chapter One of The Iron Man through four structured sentences, focusing on sentence structure, colourful semantics, and adjectives to enhance their retelling.

Resources Include

  • Weekly plan
  • Simplified versions of the chapter
  • Colourful semantics for the chapter
  • Picture representation for the Ironman story

These activities provide a supportive framework for EAL learners to improve their English language skills, while also fostering creativity and comprehension through structured sentence building and descriptive writing.
