A variety of lessons for AQA Language Paper 1 and Paper 2 Q5s. Inspired by various poems in the Power and Conflict cluster. Lessons cover fiction writing and non-fiction. These were used with my top set Y10 (target grades ranging between 5 and 9).

A knowledge organiser for KS3 Romantic poetry. Contains key themes, definitions, a brief summary of context and key subject terminology for language, structure and form.

A SOW exploring the play over a whole term. Lessons are focused on both reading and writing skills- including analysis, evaluation, writing from a character's perspective and writing non-fiction. Each lesson has a clear LO with a planned starter, main and plenary. (Some lessons have multiple options to choose from). Challenge tasks at included for the more able students.

Full PowerPoint for all of the AQA Power and Conflict poems. Lessons cover each poem and how to write comparative essays. Each lesson begins with detailed AO3 context and is followed by AO1 and AO2 skills. Some models included.

A short PPT with key ideas for exploring context in Romeo and Juliet. Includes plague, Renaissance, Great Chain of Being, Humanism and feuds.

A set of structure strips/ bookmarks to help lower ability students in structuring their narratives for Q5. Uses the 5 s’s (setting, show character, senses, show off, sentences) to aid students in producing a 5 paragraph narrative. Can be stuck in books and written alongside of, or laminated and kept in books.

A grade 8/9 descriptive writing response to an image. Uses highly ambitious vocabulary, sentence structure and punctuation. Uses a wide range of complex linguistic features successfully. Description of an image of a car graveyard (image attached to response)

Poetry knowledge organiser including subject terminology and definitions for Language, Structure and Form. Ideal to use at KS3 and KS4. Personally, I laminate them and place them on tables or print them and give to students to glue into front of anthologies for GCSE.

Could be laminated and left on tables or printed and glued into books.

A knowledge organiser for Golding’s Lord of the Flies. Contains key quotations for each character and the island itself, key themes, contextual information (WW2, Cold War, Original sin, Freud) and Golding’s ideas/intentions. Boxes with key language and structure devices also included.
