A quick phonics writing task for children to demonstrate their ability to write some Phase 3 digraphs sh, ch, oo, ee, qu by writing the names of items in the shopping list and who the list belongs to.

A fun Power Point to introduce the Phase 3 Tricky Word ‘you’ with reading opportunities within it and a writing task to print and complete at the end. Writing task also goes towards some PSED assessment criteria- I got some great observations from discussions of it with the children. *Children will need to have already learned tricky word ‘are’ to get the most out of this.

Mud kitchen recipes based on the theme of Frozen. The children work out the addition sums to follow the recipe. Laminate and pin to the mud kitchen.

I taught this using the first 2 slides as an introduction and worked with the class to find out the answers. Then children completed the questions in speech bubbles (differentiated) by physically dividing up the the cakes between the Harry/Meghan/ the Queen / Prince William who were stuck on plastic plates. Fun presentation to teach the phase 3 ‘ow’ sound (ow as in cow). Writing activity three ways- quick write on white boards or 2 differentiated worksheets to apply the sounds in words or sentences- depending on the evidence you need! Reading opportunities within the presentation.

This power point can be used to introduce Phase 3 tricky word ‘me’. It begins with a recap activity of reading a caption and drawing it on a white board. Then the children are introduced to reading the Phase 3 tricky word ‘me’ and then have a writing activity to do. It is a fun way of introducing and practicing this word.

The numbers 0-20 on Autumn leaves. This resource can be printed out and laminated and cut into cards. The cards can be used for number activities such as matching quantities to the digit, or digit ordering. They can also be used for display. The numbers are on a photograph of a leaf which lends to a more neutral, natural aesthetic than illustrated/ drawn images. They would be perfect for use when learning about Autumn or whilst doing outdoor learning or forest school.

Space themed addition word problems for Reception or Year 1. There are a couple of examples on a power point which can be shown to the class and the children can work together to work out the answers. Animations make the word problem, and how to work out the answer visual. Then there are differentiated questions (answers below 10 and answers 10-20) to be printed and completed by the children with a self assessment area on them. At the end there is further ‘mastery’ type questions, which allow for discussion and are clearly explained using pictures to support. There is a mastery question to be printed and completed by the children also.

Phase 3 ‘oa’ presentation and reading activity + phase 3 digraph bingo Fun presentation to teach Phase 3 ‘oa’ (as in goat) with activities. There is a recap Phase 3 graphemes bingo boards for a starter, reading activities within the presentation and an active reading football game which is differentiated for reading words or sentences which include ‘oa’. Note- to complete the reading activity you will need a ball and some space e.g. a hall or outdoors.

Everything you need for a whole phonics lesson or session on the ‘ear’ phoneme and grapheme. Printable activity cards for ‘splat’ game to recap some phase 2 and 3 tricky words. Presentation for teaching ‘ear’ (Phase 3 phonics). There are lots of opportunities for interaction from the children and opportunities for them to practise reading skills. Paired reading activity. Fun writing activity - Children dress up in beards and ears to reinforce their learning to complete the activity. Required dressing up props are provided to be printed for this- its nice and interactive and fun, perfect for EYFS (my class loved it!) Evidence from this activity can be used towards: Literacy (writing) Physical Development (moving and handling) UTW (Technology)- if children photograph themselves in their costumes! As this is a whole session it could be used for remote learning too.

A presentation introducing ‘igh’ (Phase 3). This can be used for whole group teaching. This includes starter recap activity where children read Tricky Words to gain stars. It then introduces ‘igh’ as a phoneme and grapheme, through its use in single words, then within sentences with lots of reading opportunities for the children. There are then 2 activities for the children to complete: a naughts and crosses reading game which can be done as a whole group or in pairs, then a writing activity with self assessment opportunity. I used with Reception but could be used with any age group learning or recapping the ‘igh’ sound in phonics. Could easily be used for remote learning too.

Trash or treasure game. 192 of real and fake words on coins for children to read and sort as trash (fake words) or treasure (real words). Words contain all Phase 3 and 5 graphemes. Simply print one slide per page, laminate and cut out. Perfect revision for the Phonics Screening check or just as part of recap work. Preview makes the text look different to the actual resource, text is Comic Sans and all words fit on one line so are easy for the children to read, as shown in uploaded picture.

I have created this template to use to send weekly home learning home to parents/carers for if my class is closed due to Coronavirus or for when children are isolating. It is designed for Early Years classes: Nursery or Reception. The start of the document provides information for parents about what they need to do at home each week. It also outlines key skills that they should practise at home with their children such as dressing, sharing and ways to approach this. There is a suggested timetable to ensure children retain some routine. There is also a sheet advising parents on how to read effectively with their children. The actual activities section is blank, ready for you to add your own relevant daily activities. 5 activities designed to be used outside to get evidence of independent, child initiated reading activities. 3 are differentiated to 2 or 3 levels. This is show by colour so the same activity can be going on at different levels at the same time e.g. children with the purple sheet find the purple words, children with the orange sheet find the orange words. The other 2 can be differentiated by staff who can guide children to a suitable word/caption. Activities include phonetically decodable words and ‘tricky words’. Phase 2, Phase 3 and Phase 4 covered. Activities require very little setting up apart from printing out the activities and cutting them up. Activities include- 2x instructions for children to follow 1 x labeling activity 1x word hunt 1 x picture hunt (read and draw)
